She asserted that her posts about Imran Khan’s imprisonment—specifically the alleged brutal solitary confinement and related health concerns—receive almost no visibility inside Pakistan. Goldsmith pointed to a pattern of reduced reach, despite ongoing calls to highlight what she describes as political imprisonment and human rights concerns.
In a series of posts on Friday, Goldsmith tagged Musk and described how her messages about Imran Khan’s jail conditions and the status of his health are throttled within Pakistan. One message she shared included a personal note: her two sons have not been allowed to communicate with their father, who she says has been unlawfully held in solitary confinement for 22 months, with X as the only platform left to tell the world about his situation.
Jemima Goldsmith and Imran Khan were married in 1995 and have two sons, Sulaiman Isa (born 1996) and Kasim (born 1999). The couple separated in 2004, and Goldsmith has lived in the United States since. Despite the divorce, she has repeatedly voiced support for Khan.
Goldsmith framed her appeal as a matter of free speech, asking Musk to remember their past acquaintance and to address what she describes as Khan’s “brutal” confinement and the lack of contact with his family. She claimed that Khan’s name has been erased from many TV channels and radio stations in Pakistan, forcing her to use X to bring attention to what she calls an injustice.
Another element of her message points to perceived manipulation of online visibility. She cited “Grok,” an AI tool she says can show that posts about Khan’s jail conditions and his family’s access to him are limited by the algorithm. She alleged that Pakistani authorities have prioritized online scrutiny of Khan’s circle, and that X appears to be accommodating these pressures to keep the platform functional in the country, albeit with restricted reach.
In a further note, she reminded Musk of his freedom-of-speech pledge, urging him to fix the visibility filtering on her account so her messages can reach a wider audience.
Health concerns surrounding Imran Khan have also come to the fore. Speculation intensified last month when his family demanded evidence that the jailed former prime minister is alive. Khan’s sister, Uzma Khanum, reportedly visited him at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi and described what she called mental harassment. Supporters argue Khan is being denied access to lawyers and family visits, a claim echoed by AFP.
More recently, Muhammad Sohaib Afridi, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alleged mistreatment of Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in jail, adding to the broader concerns about Khan’s welfare.
